I was surprised by the substance of the story. My experience with the invisible man has been through comic books and the bad Kevin Bacon movie; apparently the original was not as much a victim as portrayed in those. For all that the story was interestingly different than I expected, it was very obviously written a long time ago. For me that made it quite a hard read until the last 50 pages or so when it got action packed.
I'd pass on this.

125+ years later and society is still living deep withing 'ignorance is bliss'.
Science experiments gone wrong seem to be a popular theme in the late 1800s, early 1900s and I'm here for it. It takes a little more finessing than just having a power being acquired quickly. There's work involved, and its likely these type of minds that have allowed advancements in science in the first place. I digress. A little slow in some parts, but overall something that makes you think a little bit.

I found this book to be highly entertaining. H. G. Wells writes with such a flair for creatively hilarious diction the story really comes to life. We meet the invisible man post transformation and we watch his slow yet steady descent into madness. I never quite found myself rooting for him to succeed in his ventures, given his unapologetic crankiness and his mild habit of larceny and just general exceptional selfishness. Wells makes no attempt to polish Griffin's image, instead we are entralled watching this perfectly depicted enigmatic persona infiltrate a small town and we take the perspective of the simple yet intuitively curious townspeople trying to pin down the mystery of this peculiar stranger. This book is a bit of a slow burn but when it gets going it's a ride on a ninety degree coaster with no brakes.
