I did not know what to expect when I started reading this. It really deep dives into a parents grief at losing their only son and a mother's undying love.

I kind of got lost in the middle when the POV's switched to Lena and Joseph. I didn't really love seeing inside their personal lives and found them uncomfortable. I wholeheartedly believe every single person in this book needs some hardcore daily therapy.

I felt like Magos kinda lost her love for M as she immersed herself in the art world. She called him Santiago and seemed to bury her head in the sand about things. I hated that at first, but I wonder if she wasn't just a terriblly broken person. She never fully healed, and this was how she had healed. A bit broken and different now.
I appreciated the way Joseph loved M for who he was. He treated him like his son and never called him who he wasn't. The end got really messy, but I guess it was to be expected. They all tried really hard, but M was wild. His human life felt like he was lost all the time. Not really sure what was right or wrong, or just his wild nature. I loved how open and loving he was with his family. His POV was so sad. And his whole family pretty much just become accomplices in M's murder eating.

I do wonder what would have happened if they had never amputated his arm-tail. Would he have never evolved, or would he have evolved to what he ended up being in the end of the book sooner? Like would he have had the in-between period of his life where he worked and made friends? I'm really curious.

This had a very bittersweet ending but I feel it ending the best way It could for everyone.

I unfortunately didn't love this book (sorry Em) but it was really heavy and heartbreaking and there was a few too many things that made me uncomfy. Not a bad book, but not for everyone.
