Murder mystery - check. Angsty teenage girl - check. Multiple narrators (including a ghost) - check. I really enjoyed this story, but I wanted the ending to be just a little more... well, I wanted more justice and closure, that's what it comes down to. Without that, I feel a little odd recommending this to students -but they might like it. Guess I'll find out.

I'm writing this having just finished Cold, and I can still feel an ache in my chest.

Originally, I thought this would be about Georgia investigating and finding Todd's killer, but it's not so much a fast-paced mystery as it is a slow unfurling of what lead up to that night. As the story progresses, it becomes obvious that this isn't just a story that includes homophobia; it's a story about homophobia, so do be prepared for that going in.

I'm having trouble writing about this story in depth, because I don't want to spoil anything, and it is primarily a study of these characters and their relationships to each other. Don't go into this expecting a fast-paced mystery or a horror type of ghost story, but do expect a moving portrait of these characters and their place in the world.

I feel so deeply for these characters, and how Todd hadn't yet had a chance to really live as his true self. It made for a melancholic read, but it just shows how skillfully it's been written. If you're ready for a story that will make your heart ache, I highly recommend this one.

WOW. I was feeling kind of meh abt this bc reading a book about a murdered gay kid isn't the best cup of tea but damn, it really picked up. The story is told via 2POVs, Todd's (the ghost of the murdered kid) and Georgia's, also a queer kid who just happens to live in the same area. Georgia's POV took me a second to get into bc I'm kind of over HS drama but she grew on me and the end had me blood pumping and mouth open.

As an adult I'd rate this as a 2.5 - 3 star read, however when I realised it was written for a YA audience, the writing style made much more sense and I'd give it 4 stars. A quick read for an adult. I would not recommend if you get frustrated with other books written for YA audience. It is short, so not a lot of time to give depth to the characters. I thought the story was well written and I liked the different perspectives of Todd and Georgia.

I liked that COLD reminded me of Mare of Easttown. It was well-written and an interesting mystery, but I was underwhelmed. (Content: Swearing and sexual situations, cheating)

Told from the perspectives of the ghost if a boy just murdered and a nearby school girl. Kinda riveting. The entire read you can feel/sense the connections, but clarity is just out of reach - until the very very end.

Great for reluctant readers as it’s short. Great read.
