It really is an interesting book, but everyone in it made me want to stop reading it.

I thought this was a great book for looking into the mundane mindset of both Germans and Americans during the rise of the Nazi party. Watching the Dodd family struggle with different difficulties was very intriguing. It was very well researched (with great tidbits in the annotated bibliography of things Larson couldn't use in the book but found interesting). I thought that the book was slightly hard to follow at some points due to the vast amount of people, but it was still an enthralling journey.

Alternating between dull, diplomatic details and the reckless love affairs of the ambassador's daughter, it culminates in a violent weekend during the rise of the Nazis which is, in my opinion, the only interesting part of the book.
