I liked this book, but it was not what I was expecting. I thought this was a light and fluffy book; however, this is a heavy, heavy read. It only got lighter in the last 30 or so pages. Know that going in. Don't let that stop you from reading this; know it's going in.

A heart felt story of two people struggling with grief at Christmas time. A widow barely making ends meet sets out on a plan to make this a special Christmas season for her young son. A bachelor faces his first Christmas alone after his younger sister’s death earlier in the year. It is not a typical romance, and certainly not a comedy, though there are many comical moments throughout the novel. Lovely story & a satisfying ending. I appreciated the author’s thoughtful depictions of characters with disabilities.

I loved this book in the beginning I enjoyed that it wasn’t the super happy cheerful Christmas book but then it felt like it just got really drawn out I found myself losing interest. The ending was cute and tied everything up but I think the book would’ve been better in a Novella

Definitely not a typical cheery holiday read -this is a much darker look at the holidays, and how some have to try really hard to see something worth celebrating. This book covers some really heavy topics - poverty, suicide and depression, and sexual assault. Not really a lineup of classic Christmas topics. The romance was the real B-plot in this story. I realized about 150 pages in that the two had barely interacted so far - this book is much more about Kate's mission to turn her life around. Overall, I really liked this book but I was a little surprised by the ending, which knocked my rating down a couple of stars.
Spoiler While I know that the intent is probably that Kate realizes she can accept help from others, but it came across like she needed a man to come in and save her from her crumbling life. I also wasn't a huge fan of how - right when she needed financial help the most - she is sexually assaulted and as a result will likely see a big payout from the legal proceedings.

3 ⭐️ // If you’re looking for a cheery, light-hearted holiday read, look elsewhere. ⚠️

The book started slow for me, and sometimes, it was hard to tell when the POV changed between the main characters. However, this could have been an ebook problem.

This book covers heavy topics, so it’s not your typical feel-good Christmas book. Not that that’s a bad thing, but it’s worth mentioning.

Overall, I liked the story, but it wasn’t my favorite. Also, I wish there was an epilogue because I felt like some parts didn’t feel complete.

This audiobook was way longer than it needed to be in my opinion. I liked the sentiment of the book but it took such a stark/dark turn that it wasn't the cheery holiday read I was hoping for.
