3.5 rushed ending making it feel like the author ran out of story.

I picked up this book just as our city was going into the Stay at Home order...while the library was trying to stay open for our patrons as long as we could. I saw it and thought, how fitting. It was actually super cute and fun to read. I liked the perspective of going back and forth between Oliver and Flora. Sometimes you need a super easy read like this. The relationship between the two was cute and real.

When I saw this book on the shelf at Barnes and Noble, I felt the urge to pick it up because it is something that I felt I could relate to after being in quarantine for 5 months and experiencing a pandemic. It kind of got off to a slow start, but it really picked up and I didn't want to put it down. I felt the dynamic Flora and Oliver built from the initial flight into the warehouse quarantine and then into the hospital quarantine was written exceptionally well and I felt it was realistic. I loved how Flora also wasn't afraid to tell Oliver about Kelsey's intentions because she was able to see through it and fight for her true connection with him. I also enjoyed how Oliver was perfectly awkward because it made him more realistic and really added to the quarantine relationship. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially during this pandemic, because I feel everyone could relate in some capacity.

Favorite Quote: "And I can’t think of anyone I’d rather go through this forever with."

I received this eARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Oliver has been setting the stage for making his longtime crush his girlfriend. First, he needs to rush back from his spring break volunteer trip in the Dominican Republic to get to a party back home. His crush invited him and he hopes to seal the deal. However, on his return flight home, he sits next to an uber gross and uber sick dude, who turns out to have a new deadly version of mono. Oliver and the other passengers from the flight are delayed overnight in quarantine. Olive attempts to befriend Flora another passenger, who is his age. Flora is dealing with her own family baggage, since she is returning home to help take care of her disabled uncle after visiting her father and his new wife. Flora is not excited to get back home to her problems, so she fakes a fever and decides to kiss Oliver for good measure. Now the two are put into a 30-day quarantine, even though both know they aren’t really sick. Feeling bad for what she did to Oliver, Flora helps him use social media to land Oliver’s crush. However, the growing connection between Flora and Oliver might be more than the surface level relationship Oliver has with his crush.

I loved this concept and wanted to like this book. However, I never warmed up to the main characters and didn’t truly buy their budding relationship. There did not seem to be much interaction between the characters, other than Flora constantly freezing Oliver out. I don’t know how their romantic looks could have evolved other than the trope of insta-love. This book opened itself up to more, but never truly developed those avenues enough to make this book better than it was. I enjoyed it, but it could have been better.

This concept really hits different after an actual pandemic. She literally "infects" him on purpose for no reason... after 3 years of COVID, that's a yikes from me.
