After having this on the "currently reading" shelf for eleven months and only reading it for about five days at the start and end of that time, I've concluded that this book, like most other Garth Nix books, is just not really my cup of tea. I can see objectively that it's a fine, well written YA fantasy, it's just not doing it for me.

I wanted to give this one 3.5. There was parts I absolutely loved, and others that dragged for me.
Saying that though I will definitely be continuing the series

i really liked the plot , somewhat fast paced, the writing , world building and the magic system. however i still felt like this lacked something which is the characters they almost have no personality. i felt so bored at times whenever nothing action packed was happening because the characters felt bland like i still love them but i wanted to maybe know more about sabriel it felt like i knew more about touchstone which is why he’s a favorite even though he appears halfway through the book. even moggett which more interesting than sabriel. i do have to admit that i liked how sabriel wasn’t a whiny character and just went head on to everything she had to do which is something that not many characters have in this genre.

I think this is one of the coolest worlds and magic systems I’ve ever read but I just thought the characters and plot were terribly boring, especially Sabriel herself who did absolutely nothing for me. The romance subplot added nothing and wasn’t convincing.

I honestly tried. I tried so hard to het through and this review is based on a DNF. it's not that the book was necessarily bad it was just damn confusing and i didn't care. I only knew abhorsen and sabriels name. I had no desire to pick this book up i tried audiobooks, i tried reading in small chunks per day, i tried every night sometimes to no avail. I did not care. The writing is SO good and that's what gained it a star. It was meh and confusing. I don't care about sabriel binding the dead.

I read this series when I was younger...can't remember them very well but I remember that I loved them. I believe they were the start of my fantasy book addiction. I plan on reading them again to see if they are as good as I remember.
