Just as delightful as the other Discworld books I've read thus far! This book was about the nature of believe, and how it can manifest in our world. There were a lot of characters to keep track of, but each time I thought I was getting lost, enough information was given to bring me back to what their struggles were.

The first time I read Hogfather, I thought it was just....okay. Definitely not bad but any stretch, but I didn't like it as nearly as much as I did the Watch and Witches books from the Discworld series.I thought that this would more or less be it for me in this particular title.

Two years later, on a bit of a whim I decided to revisit it with a reread. And I don't know if something deep, deep inside me suddenly mentally unlocked, or if I was simply paying more attention this time around, or what happened exactly, but it felt like I was reading a completely different book. The references upon references, the themes deeply interwoven into the plot, it all just hit so much differently.

Since then, I have made it a tradition to reread it every December, and I've yet to grow tired of this routine. The book only gets more and more enjoyable as I continue to discover previously unnoticed jokes, clever bits of wordplay, and other jewels hidden in Pratchett's masterful prose.

It's not just the perfect Discworld book for the holiday season, but at this point I'm become quite positive that Hogfather is one of the very best in the entire series. At the very least, it is my own personal favorite by far and away.

this was pitched as a christmas bookclub hit and i enjoyed it a lot, but don't think it's as stand-alone as discworld fans want it to be. i read like a LOT of discworld when i was uhh 13 or so, and this re-read told me a) just how little i retained, and b) not to listen to the incredibly low-quality audiobooks recorded on a potato in like 1990. those issues aside i liked this a LOT more than i liked Neverwhere and feel like the discworld undertaking may still be on the table for 2020
