Terry Pratchett will drop some absolutely metal lines, like "It's all about the sun, master. White snow and red blood and the sun. Always has been" and then you remember that it's spoken by a chainsmoking old man dressed as a pixie, who also says 'call me Uncle Heavy".
One of the very best of the one of the very best writer's books. Fiercely moral, painfully funny and breathtakingly paced.
It’s Hogswatch in the Discworld, but not one you’ve ever seen before. As children eagerly await the Hogfather to visit, Susan realizes something is not quite right his year. Especially when her Grandfather, the embodiment of Death himself, shows up in a hogfather costume instead! I cannot write a bad review about Terry Pratchett. This one is one of my favorites to read around Christmas, and never fails to get me laughing. The narrator is superb at voices, and I love the discworld books that include the wizards and their bumbling genius. Plus, I love the inclusion of so many traditions, especially Wenceslas, and how the story dives into the ever changing aspects of a holiday. Humans are the ones who create our myths and traditions and holidays - it’s fun to look back and see how they’ve changed as a reflection of humanity’s changes over time.

Nobody mixes fantasy and philosophy quite like Mr Pratchett, and whether you're looking for a fun read or something more thought-provoking, this book is able to fulfill those needs.
On the surface, this book is a fun fantasy that will leave you chuckling as the characters search for the missing main man of Christmas. But as you dive into the novel you can't help but reflect on the deep philosophical thoughts surrounding the strength of belief and what happens to ideologies when people no longer believe.
Do I need to read the other books in the Discworld series first?
Yes, I would recommend reading the other books in the Discworld series first. At this point in the series the world is already established and it is presumed that you understand how the world works. It also references an earlier book in the series several times, in which the main characters were also featured.
