This story is atmospheric and oozes romanticism. I really enjoyed some of the elements of historical and speculative fiction that tied this story together. However, some of the plot devices were also a bit lacking for me personally.

It really pains me to say it, but this absolutely did not work for me. Based on other reviews I had seen, I was anticipating something much more fantasy based, rather than historical fiction with a touch of paranormal. The writing style also felt overly descriptive for what I think what meant to feel like a fast paced thrilling adventure, and personally I did not find either main character worth rooting for. If a spooky historical fiction and the childhood friends to long lost lovers trope works for you, then absolutely pick this up, but a miss from me.

I took my time reading this one and I really enjoyed the ride.

This is a slow paced, his-fic romance set in 1840s Mexico with a bit of the supernatural added in. I really enjoyed Nena and Nestor's moments together. The pining from Nestor omg, loved it so much. I think the double POV really helped me get through this one.
