Loved it. One of my favorite classics. The characters were so much more interesting, and you could appreciate the writing while the plot kept moving.

To be honest, I was reading this book because I felt like this is a book I should read. Then about 50 pages in I realized I’ve read it before. 🙄 But no quitting during #52booksin52weeks ! I do remember thinking it was a great love story, and now I know I’m an old woman because now I think Heathcliff’s love was dark and drastic and obsessive and Catherine was petty and immature and dramatic. But still excellent writing with great quotes!

This book is a total adventure to read. It has very dark themes of abuse and is filled with hate and revenge. Even so, the book is written so well and i found it enjoyabke to read. After i fished it, i didnt know what to make of it, what was the point? I wasnt sure how much i liked it. But over time ive grown to like the book more and see how it explores trauma and clinging to the past. Idk if id reccomend it to anyone tho, cuz its very tense. 

The only character i really liked is edgar, he deserved better.

I'm...... exhausted....... help lol.

Pertama-tama, aku baca versi terjemahan Gramedia. Dan aku setuju sama komentar beberapa pembaca di ipusnas kalo pemilihan kata-kata kasarnya terlalu lugas dan blak-blakan. Untuk yang nggak terbiasa dengan gaya bicara gini sih bakal kagok dan jengah bacanya.
Terus, entah karena gaya penerjemahannya atau emang aslinya gitu, tapi satu dialog begitu panjang sampai memenuhi satu halaman tuh bikin kepalaku pusing dan bosen. Tapi menurutku sih emang karena dari sananya gitu ya, namanya juga cerita klasik. Dialog-dialognya mendukung kekelaman cerita dengan banyaknya keluhan, dampratan, rengekan, dan sumpah serapah yang bikin aku sebagai pembaca berasa ikutan ditolol-tolol-in.
Yah, bisa dibilang aku cukup aman sama gaya penerjemahann Gramedia. Masih tetap menjaga kebakuan yang nggak bocor tiba-tiba pakai bahasa gak baku.

Sedangkan untuk cerita, wah, sudah pasti bikin gila.
Memang disarankan untuk baca ini pas lagi bahagia, atau at least jangan lagi terpuruk deh. Bakal kebawa perasaan banget kalo nuansa real life mirip-mirip kayak nuansa di novel hahaha.
Narasi penggambaran latar tempat cukup bikin membingungkan (walau bisa dibilang ini tergantung terjemahannya lagi), karena sering bikin aku kesulitan untuk membayangkannya.
Nama-nama tokoh dan tempat dalam cerita pun membingungkan karena ejaannya mirip-mirip, tapi bisa diatasi dengan seringnya nama-nama itu disebutkan jadi membantu aku untuk inget gitu aja.

Gaya penyajian ceritanya justru yang bikin aku makin lelet buat baca. Aku tipe yang gak terlalu suka membaca suatu kisah yang ternyata kisah itu juga dikisahkan oleh tokoh di cerita yang kubaca. Jadi aku nggak bisa langsung merasakan gimana perasaan mereka pas menghadapi kejadian demi kejadian itu. Yah, bisa dibilang itu yang bikin ekspektasiku jadi jatuh.

Karena penyajiannya gitu, jadi berpengaruh juga ke plot cerita yang maju mundur. Aku sering seneng kalau narasi udah balik lagi ke masa kini, pas bukan lagi di dunia kilas balik dari sudut pandang si Nelly walau di tiap babnya, adegan ini cuma muncul 1-2 paragraf aja.

Dan untuk tokoh favorit jatuh kepadaaaaaa Edgar Linton dan Hareton Earnshaw! Yey!!
