Cute slow burn. Ending was not what I expected in the worst way. Was hoping for a sweet romantic ending- didn’t get that 😳, but the story was cute and fluffy. Wasn’t expecting too much from a novella.

So I read the novellas out of order, as I read The Love Hypothesis (loved it) and then Stuck With You (wasn’t a fan). I got the novellas as my library made them available on @libby.app, so I found UOR last. While I loved TLH because I felt like I could really follow as the characters’ relationships built, I didn’t really feel that in Under One Roof.
Due to the shortness of the story, it felt a bit like a porno; they went rapidly from enemies to friends, and then they were suddenly getting naked
Although this story was more enjoyable than Stuck With You, it still did not live up to the novel that started it all. I found the antics of Mara and Liam to be entertaining, and there was a certain organic feel to their relationship development. Aside from the scene that felt straight out of a porno- if you read it, you know what I mean- the story feels possible. I found that I actually wanted to finish reading this one (unlike Stuck With You).

Despite being incredibly cheesy, predictable, cookie-cutter, trope-y, even cliche, this was enjoyable because the characters weren't flat stereotypes. At the very least they were a composite of several flat stereotypes, but they were likeable, funny, and human.

TW/CW: Sex, death of a friend, talk of family estrangement
REVIEW: Under One Roof is a STEMinist romance novella by the author of The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain. It follows Mara, an environmental scientist as she’s left half ownership in a Washington, DC house. The other half belongs to Liam, a corporate lawyer, and the two of them must learn to live together.
This is a fun and easy story, just like all of Hazelwood’s are. I really enjoy them and even though they are all a little similar, I want to read them anyway! For those of you looking for spicy books, this novella has one sex scene in it.
Definitely recommended to fans of contemporary romance, and fans of Ali Hazelwood’s other books!
