The Betrothed is a beautiful, fast-paced book by Kiera Cass.

The book starts; convincing you that Hollis Brite, (the main character), is soon to be marrying Prince Jameson, only for it to take a sharp turn, when Hollis meets Silas Eastoffe and falls madly in love.
Then, just before Jameson proposes to her, Hollis tells him that she can't marry him. Then as if this wasn't enough, Hollis then runs away with Silas that same night.
Just when you think the book is finally going to smooth out to a happy ending, Silas and Hollis whole family get murdered in a massacrer on Hollis and Silas' wedding.
This leaves Hollis in a lurch, left with only her sister-in-law Scarlett and her mother-in-law. Scarlett and Lady Eastoffe leave the kingdom a few days later, leaving Hollis behind. Just as the book draws to a close, Hollis realises that she doesn't want to be left all alone, and catches up with their carriage on her horse.
The book then ends with Hollis, Lady Eastoffe and Scarlett together, ready to face whatever comes their way.

I really enjoyed this novel, and I couldn't recommend it more highly. Great for lovers of amazing fashion, romance and a fast-paced storyline.

It was good! 3.5 stars! I really didn't know if I would like this, but it got good right around Page 200. THIS IS NOT ANOTHER SELECTION SPIN-OFF, IT IS ITS OWN SERIES! I do think I will read the sequel, because I checked it out from the library as well, and it seems better than its predecessor. Would recommend if you are looking for something similar but different to the Selection series.

I can’t even find the words to explain how one of my most anticipated books of the year turned out to be the BIGGEST disappointment ever.

I have some mixed feelings about this book. I've read and seen many bad reviews on this book and it made me very hesitantly to read it. But I did. It was an...ok story. For sure, it's not the best Kiera Cass book. This book does give off some Selection vibe but very, very little.

The romance was the most disappointing thing about this book. It was unrealistic and I didn't love it. I can see the attraction between Sylus and Lady Hollis...but not the connection or chemistry. It was definitely insta-love and love at first sight (both of which I don't mind in books) that wasn't done well. Hollis and Sylus had only had a few conversations and I found it unbelievable that they would fall in love with each other that quick. Though...
Spoiler I did feel bad for Hollis when ( if ) Sylus died at the end.
Kiera Cass creates amazing romances in books, but not in this one.

There were a few characters that I hated. But that doesn't contribute to me disliking the book. I did not like Hollis' parents. They felt...emotionless. Except for the very few instances with Hollis' mother. But her parents seemed really selfish and vain.
Spoiler I really do feel bad for Hollis, though, when they died.
I am still undecided on Hollis' best friend, Delia Grace. There's a part of me that wants to dislike her but then there's a part of me that wants to give her a chance...

The plot was another big "if" for me. It lacked conflict and suspense. There was a little bit of conflict Hollis had internally. And toward the end, there was a little bit of action. But throughout most of the book, it was not very suspenseful.

I know there is to be another book following this. It makes sense since nothing is really wrapped up. Overall, it was an okay book. There were parts that I enjoyed and parts that I didn't. I'm not really disappointed since my expectations were really low going into this book. Hopefully, the next book will be more exciting.
