I went into this book not really knowing anything about Malcolm X so I learned A LOT! I did appreciate the detail, but I don't think this was the best choice for audio. It was hard to keep track of everyone. The appendix at the end — essentially a Q&A with Malcolm X — was super helpful and a great summary of the activist's viewpoint.

This was an excellent read--a deep dive into, not just Malcolm X the man, but also the forces that shaped him and that he in turn shaped throughout his short life.

Wow, I learned soooo much from this book and realized just how little I knew about Malcolm X. From the trouble-making of his youth, to his time in prison, his journey through the Nation of Islam, and then the rapid ending of his life. Honestly, I was shocked to learn that Malcolm was really just coming into his own during the final months of his life, and I just can’t stop thinking about everything else he would have said and accomplished had he not been assassinated.
