Virulently anti-communist and had some racist and culturally outdated tropes. I still found it funny at times. It was interesting to see the origin of these characters and consider how far they've come. Snowy talks!

Despite their significant flaws, I love the Tintin stories...but this one is a total waste of time except as (arguably) a historical curiosity. It's clangingly obvious anti-communist propaganda from nearly a century ago. So it was pretty terrible, but overall I found it too silly and archaic to be outright offensive (although it came close several times).

This was a quick read but short on charm and, like most propaganda, dumber than a bag of lobotomized hammers. Tintin himself is not especially likeable. Even the artwork is a significant downgrade from every other Tintin adventure, and it's not even in color.

Frankly, if it wasn't part of a complete box set, this would be in my recycling bin right now...but for the time being, I'm just gonna to try to forget it exists.
