Death and Formage by Ian Moore was the best cozy mystery I could have read on this gloomy day, and I absolutely loved that it fully transported me into the plot for a few hours! We follow Richard, who I yearn to be as I get older, as he gets roped into solving a murder. I loved the quirky characters and how funny this book was, but felt I may likely have missed something in not reading the first. Either way, this does stand on its own and delivers on the laughs and a little bit of intrigue!

Another lovely installment of the Follet Valley mysteries. There’s something so charming about Richard and Valérie and their relationship, and Moore does a marvelous job with the audiobooks.

I will say that Clare is really starting to get on my nerves though, and Richard’s level of pushover concerning her is a bit too much at times.

My only real critique is just that, as with the first book, the solution to the mystery was a touch convoluted. But the story is so much fun to read it’s okay that the reveals aren’t so satisfying.

Maybe I was just in the mood for it, but I really enjoyed this book and I think I preferred it to the first one. Looking forward to the third installment!

The second book in the series, Death and Fromage by Ian Moore, brings us back to Richard and his BnB in France. This time a local cheese supplier has died and the hunt for the murderer is on. Moore uses a lot of characters in his books which can be both a pro and a con; after having read the first book in the series, I was prepared to keep track of everyone but it's a daunting task. I thought the plot twists and ah-ha moments were well done and I appreciated that Moore put a lot of detail into describing the town and it's people.

This is the second book in the series and it doesn’t disappoint.

Richard and Valerie are the main protagonists but also arriving in France is Richard’s wife, daughter and her partner, but why? What is his wife up to? Does she really want a reconciliation or is she there for other “selfish” reasons?

We also have food critics, Michelin Star restaurants, vegan cheese, and, oh yes, several murders to solve by a former husband of Valerie’s who is the investigating detective and just wants an easy life in this quiet rural french countryside.

Richard of course, along with Valarie get sucked into the investigation.

At times I got lost in the story as there are so many characters but that’s part of the appeal as you have to concentrate on not only the plot but also the people involved.

And of course the big secret which is the ultimate motive for committing these hideous crimes.

Funny, charming and the book makes me want to return to the sunny french countryside.

A great read.

I enjoyed Death and Fromage and found it easy to read and follow, despite not having read the first installment of the series. I enjoyed the pace of the story, however it became rushed toward the end and I had to back track several times to keep up. A fun read to start 2024!

I do not know what has happened with a lot of English comedians writing crime books all of a sudden, but this is one that I did like out of the many out there.

I have not read the first in the series, however, that did not stop me from enjoying the book. I thought how they found clues was very amature and careless - everything happens in a little village you think no one sure your car take a different turning the other day? The story was funny and I did not put it down so a 4 star from me.
