Got this book through interlibrary loan because I’m a big Steve Erickson fan. Really enjoyed Aitken’s work. The scale doesn’t always come through due to the way the work is photographed and laid out. The catalog with dimensions in the back helps a little bit with this issue. Aitken’s writing is quite lucid and thought provoking. Erickson’s writing is at times characteristic of his Zeroville style, especially the short segments on the film and music cultural landmarks of 1968. I often felt like he was trying too hard to make his style fit into the art book format though. Some sections bordered on being pretentious, which was unexpected.
