I liked and disliked this book in equal parts. I liked the world building and the idea of a hidden medieval kingdom. I liked the friendships between Maggie and the girls. Really liked Aradia. Did not like the repeated usage of the trope where the male vampire wants to forcefully change his soulmate into a vampire. I think in these Night World books at LEAST three of them have that happen. And then they change their minds and don't change them. Also, what does L.J. Smith have against shapeshifters lmao? Nine books in this universe and not one with a shapeshifter love interest. Chervil is a terrible name, it literally is French parsley. The reunion with Miles was RIDICULOUS. A thumbs up?? lmaooo

This is a reread for me. And it’s gonna be the same review word for word I have for the first book.

I first read these books so long ago, like years and years ago. Back when twilight was first popular lol

I won’t be re-rating it though, it will stay at the rating it has been since I read it the first time.

It’s crappy but kinda good paranormal YA romance. It’s like a good hallmark movie

El mundo donde Maggie se adentra, es el mas singular de los descritos hasta ahora en el Night World. Entretenido y lleno de acción es una historia sin grandes pretensiones, perfecta para estas tardes navideñas.
PD: Delos es testaruda mente sexy!

2.5. Too much sitting in dungeons but I like Maggie.

MORE? MORE! @ P.S. I love that book!

EXPECTATIONS: Eighth book of the series, I cannot believe I am almost done.

THE WORLD: Again we concentrate on vampires and humans. Actually we spend most of the time in this hidden dark world of vampires. Must admit it reminded me a lot of other worlds from Vampire Diaries books.

CHARACTERS: Our main character is names Maggie. She find out her brother has died in a mysterious hiking trip and decides to follow his girlfriend to find out what really happened. Except that this girlfriend is actually an evil witch and she ends up giving Maggie for slavery in the dark vampire kingdom. On the way Maggie meets this sorta leader of the witches and ends up helping her. And of course in a meantime she also meet her soulmate, the super duper bad boy Delos who is a prince of this vampire kingdom. So yeah...let's talk a little bit more about this Maggie girl. First of all she was so pale in comparison to Hannah and Jez from previous book, like seriously if you asked me who is Maggie in a week I would not remember anymore. Just an ordinary kinda annoying super goody girl. And then there is Delos...omg....why do I have to deal with this kind of characters? A tortured soul, a boy who never knew love, a boy to be used as a weapon...yeah you get the idea. Good thing this book was published in 1997 or I would say this troupe is as old as me. Which almost is Lol

ROMANCE: Maggie and Delos are soulmates. Maggie is a goody girl and Delos is evil but then Maggie saves his soul pretty much. Boooooooooring.

GOOD: I liked the change of the environment, as I mentioned this vampire kingdom reminded me a lot of Vampire Diaries Return trilogy but I enjoyed the world there and I enjoyed the world here.

BAD: The main characters and the story itself was kinda boring to be honest. Previous two books were way better.

OVERALL: Only one book left to go so of course I will continue the series. I think this book is a good way to look beyond the boarders of ordinary world but in general it was not the best work of L.J. Smith.

MORE? MORE! @ P.S. I love that book!

'Black Dawn' is a pretty good story. I would have liked to see more development between Maggie and Delos. I realize the soulmate principle is supposed to be pretty powerful, but it felt like their relationship progressed way too fast. I also would have liked to see a little more fight against Hunter Redfern.
