Reviews with content warning for Violence - A Court of Thorns and Roses (Parts 1 & 2) [Dramatized Adaptation]

This was so fun! Uses tropes and elements from many different stories, but sometimes you just need an escape / brain candy book and I immediately wanted to read the rest of the series after finishing this one. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

I did not love these characters and couldn't get into the main character. She spends most of the book cowering or going along with everything. The end of the book is when things turn around. I kept reading to see what would happen, and I got invested enough that I'll read the next book.

I was hooked at the start, lost a bit of interest in the middle when the plot became too much of a Beauty & the Beast retread, and momentum picked back up quickly at the end just as I had begun to consider abandoning ship.

throughout, maas’ writing is exquisite. I recently finished a series where the world-building is strong and the plot is slow-moving, then a different series where the plot is go go go and the world is tricky to understand at times. this story strikes an impeccable balance between the two: the world is largely accessible from the outset and the plot is compelling. the middle isn’t slow per se, but the B&tB parallels make it feel at times predictable and lackluster.

as I turned the last page, I was hooked and I am so ready for what the next few installments in this series have in store.
