This was so fun! Uses tropes and elements from many different stories, but sometimes you just need an escape / brain candy book and I immediately wanted to read the rest of the series after finishing this one. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

I did not love these characters and couldn't get into the main character.  She spends most of the book cowering or going along with everything.  The end of the book is when things turn around.  I kept reading to see what would happen, and I got invested enough that I'll read the next book.

Okay look, I really struggled through the first 45% of this book bc it was so boring and Feyre was so annoying and dumb. Like, I wanted to bang my head against a wall for how boring and slow moving the first almost half of this book was. Like, let's be real, it didn't get interesting until Rhys showed up. All the action is packed into the last half of the book, so much so that the book could have easily been like 50 pages shorter and done the same thing.
A lot of stuff just doesn't make sense with Feyre as a character: why does she not feel any anger towards her family for treating her poorly and not appreciating her? Why does she only use her survival instincts and hunting knowledge occasionally? Why does she act like she's being held captive when they were nothing but nice to her???
But the story definitely got better in the second half, and was saved by Lucien and Rhys. I'm only giving it more than 3 ⭐ bc of those two.
Definitely a bit cheesy at times, you can definitely see the Beauty and the Beast retelling throughout, but I think it was done fairly well overall (again, if the beginning was shorter and Feyre plugged in her brain, it would have gotten like 4.5 stars)

I get the hype now, though. Im excited to see where this series goes.

Okay, so when I first read this novel (I was like 12, okay?) I hated it with a passion .
Thinking back it’s somehow a bit funny, but little me was not having it.
Now I reread it and honestly, it was actually pretty good, maybe a bit overrated.
Easy to read and adventurous.
Ofc I was sometimes a bit annoyed by Feyre being told not to do something because it is very dangerous and doing exactly that 10 minutes later, but hey …. I was more annoyed by Tam.
And I know that my annoyance will only increase in the second book. :)

Btw, if you have read the book or don’t want to read it but are curious about the plot:
I recommend watching A court of thorns and roses | animated summary by TheCookieRhino on YouTube. It’s funny and sums up the thoughts I had while rereading it pretty well

Tamlin is Howl from Howl’s moving castle. I feel like this is gonna turn in to a love triangle and that’s rough because a. Tamlin is great, he’s a protector and believes in her and supports her and I like him a lot. And b. I’m monogamous and do not support cheating in anyway and for this to become a love triangle with Rhys something sad would have to happen.

Rhys is great too, and I like enemies to lovers tropes so them together would probably be more interesting. If she chooses him won’t the love of this book be for naught? She does everything out of love for Tamlin.

Well-written & engrossing. I haven’t gotten through a book this big this fast in quite awhile. The Graphic Audio audiobooks were also an enjoyable way to get into this story, worth checking out.

I got physically mad by the time I finished reading this book. The amount of emotional whiplash it gave me by the end was enough to make me vibrate, have a racing heart, and feel like I wanted to chuck the book against the wall. The first two-thirds of the book was spent being fairly bored with the book and even struggling to get through it a bit (even though I'd been warned all over the internet that it could be a bit of a slog), but by the last 200 pages or so I was hooked and on the edge of my seat.

Feyre's stubbornness and inability to make decisions that seemed to make rational sense,
along with the hot and cold start to her and Tamlin's relationship
, was mildly offputting and prevented me from getting into any kind of consistent flow. It lulled me into a sense of boredom that got 180'd into edge-of-my-seat reading within just a few chapters that didn't release me until I finished the book.
I loved Amarantha as a villain; I thought everything about her was incredibly well done, from the way she acted to her visual description perfectly showing her as a cold and cruel beauty who loved torture
.
I also loved Rhysand as a character (despite everything he did to Feyre in this book) and can't wait to read more about him
. I guess I'm gonna have to go and get the second book asap, dang.
