I might change this rating, but for now, this is the best book I've ever read.
(By the way, I have listed all of the content warnings very carefully and made sure I didn't skip any, so this is a pretty trustworthy review to go by!)
Granted, that might sound a little dramatic, but I haven't read many books, so take that opinion with a grain of salt.
I loved the diversity of the characters, and I think it is so full of plot twists and things that will make you want to cry, scream or jump with joy.
It's got so many qualities, and I might be a little biased since the main love interest is Brazillian and I'm Brazillian, but it is still a great find. It's my favorite book for so many reasons, and I simply adore it.
But, that doesn't mean that it doesn't come with its flaws.
It seems like kind of amateur writing, mainly how they used the same description, "I pressed her lips against mine," and some other things. It's repetitive and seems like a beginner's mistake. It really did lose it's meaning when you use the same bombastic description so many times. But those really are silly mistakes that I can look over, and overall, it's a great book!

I think the main reason I adore Jaigirdar’s romance books is that the story is never just about romance. The MCs always have a full life outside of the love they may be pursuing which makes for dynamic characters and a layered story.
Nishat and Flávia were so sweet together. I think a few more conversations between the two of them would have been nice, but this wasn’t a biggie. I loved the way Jaigirdar described how a crush feels, and I was so impressed that she got me to like Flávia and root for her romance with Nishat after the way she acted in the beginning/middle of the book! Alongside the romance the book confronts cultural appropriation, exhibiting its hypocrisy and how it feels to have your culture stolen. Additionally, the story shows what coming out looks like, both when you’re accepted or not, or have have a choice in it or are outed, and also the complicated role family can play in it all.
Nishat was such a great MC. I liked how she stuck to her guns but also went through personal growth, too! I loved that the writing made me feel what she was feeling. Her relationship with her sister Priti was amazing and exactly like what my relationship was like with my sister in our teens.
On top of all this I really liked reading about henna, especially the descriptions of Nishat’s designs and how henna can be passed down as a tradition in Bengali families. I cannot wait to read more by this author!

I could go on and on about this book. I love this book into the depths of my soul. This book has my heart.
1. Plot- The plot of this book was... I guess different is the word I want, than other LGBTQIA+ novels. There were the elements of race and religion. Most YA LGBTQIA+ books are only centered around sexualities. Because this book added bits of Muslim and Catholic views, as well as the "But Bangladeshis are not gay." and the homophobia from her parents, made this book seem a bit more real.
2. Characters- I love Nishat. She is so strong-willed, she knows who she is and doesn't hide it. Flávia is so careful with others. I love their relationship, it's so cute.
3. The Humor- The little description on the inside of the book says that this is a rom-com, it's not. The only time I actually laughed was at the very end when Nishat's parents are watching The Ellen Show.
As I've said before, I really like this book. 10/10, won't read again, because I'm like that.
