I don't have any single connection to this book and I just hate everyone in this book especially the love interest, she annoyed the hell out me because shes so selfish and doesn't give a fuck.  The mc, she's idk how to describe her but she's also annoying like girl, not everyone involves around you. And the friends of mc, why did they let the mc build her business alone like dude wtf and build their own business. Overall, this is so uncomfortable to read bcos of the characters but great plot, and love the writing.

Beautiful book, I loved the writing and the characters were so lovable. Loved how nishat develops as the story grows and how people around slowly accept who she is.

This book definitely brought the information surrounding henna and where it comes from. Nishat loves art, and it really shows throughout the book. You could really feel how hurt she was that her family were ashamed of her sexuality. Considering she is Bengali, but also Irish, you’d think that her family would be a little bit more accepting. Flavia comes across as a really selfish person. I wasn’t really a fan of her throughout the book but I did like that she was pushing Nishat out of her comfort zone.

I really liked the element of culture appropriation that was threaded throughout the book. I think it brought a simple realness and honesty to the story. It’s so easy to take elements of a culture that you like and just use them as you wish. But without understanding and respecting where it comes from, it can cause a lot of pain and make life even more difficult for those from that culture.

The end was sweet and I like how it wrapped up. I can’t wait for the author’s next book.

I picked this up not expecting much beyond a couple of school kids who have rival businesses and end up falling for each other, the unique part being that they are both females. However, there was so much more to this book, delving into subjects that I wouldn't have expected. It is well worth a read!

I loved this book for so many reasons - the storytelling was brilliant, authentic, and grounded in reality while also showcasing the mystical and freeing feeling of being seen and loved by someone you love for the first time. This author also included content warnings at the beginning of the novel, something I have never seen done which made me SO happy.
