Simply too short, unclear. Mild spoiler: there were strong implications that our understanding of the Buggers is totally wrong, but the concept was poorly fleshed out.

Not as good as most of Card's books; Bean's kids are basically recycled personalities of Ender, Valentine, and Peter. By the end I enjoyed it, mostly because I learned new things about some of the lore and ideas from other books.

These later books are definitely not as good. But, a fan will at least appreciate the continuation of the story and finding out what happens to Bean and his children. The book felt rushed and some of the dialogue seemed awkward. I like the books that focus more on xenobiology than on politics, which this did. I just wanted more! But, I don't know if I'm happy that I may get it...in another subpar book. All that being said, I may have gotten misty at times.

It was a nice after thought of a book

My review: http://obsessivebookworm.wordpress.com/2012/01/21/another-book-about-bean/

Good to know how things finally ended for bean.. but pretty poor quality writing and story compared to the other ender/shadow books.

As a fan of both series, it's nice to have some conclusions. I know a 6th and final "Bean" novel is on the way but I'm assuming it's going to be an Ender/Bean crossover that will finally finish off the two stories.

While the book is short on action, it's chock full of thoughts and dialog important to the series and loose ends have been tied or are close to being tied off. It's clear that Card is back on top of his game after a few lackluster non-Ender based books.

A fast read; an interesting conclusion to Beans life, and a great start to the lives of his "turned" children. Not as action packed as the other Shadow books. But a necessary volume. Can't wait for Shadows Alive which will be the joined book that concludes Enders and Beans worlds together.

A quick, fun read about younger siblings drifting in space. Enduring unimaginable conflicts.
