This was a fortuitous find; Amazon recommended it to me because I'd read Kingfisher's Clockwork Boys (which is amazing!), and I downloaded a sample to try and then accidentally purchased it at the end (I need to learn to swipe more carefully.) But I'm glad it worked out, because this is a charming book with interesting characters and a fun spin on some classic elements. I liked the formalness of the prose, and the mix between the fantastical and the modern-day. Ruthven was probably my favorite character, but Greta and Fass were good too.

If I had a quibble, it might be just that I generally prefer books that head-hop a little less.

This book was strangely cute and cozy. I loved that there were ancient creatures but they were domestic or had 21st century problems. They were just like a bunch of old English gentlemen which was so fun to read. I found some parts to be a little dense but overall this was really enjoyable!
