Don’t read this book when you just lost a pet. It will cause some breakdowns. Otherwise a very cute book!

A heartwarming story of a kitten found in a library book drop, who went on to be a permanent library resident and ambassador to reading. After reading the first chapter I thought, I can't read a whole book about this - an article would have been enough. But the memoir, written by the librarian who discovered Dewey in the book drop one cold Iowa night, includes stories about small-town life, Iowa seasons, and her own struggles. She herself is as extraordinary as the cat she befriended.

I knew from the start that this would end sadly. But I enjoyed reading about Dewey's escapades. Who doesn't love a cat that can primp on demand! And it was the stories about his fun with Vicki and the library patrons that I loved the most. I used to play chasey with my cat Sloppy and this brought back lots of memories. This wasn't fantastically written, but it was a fun read, (well up until about Ch. 26), then I was balling my eyes out, trying to see the floor while I was vacuuming. It doesn't help that I'm still feeling sorry for myself because Sloppy has gone missing. Would I read it again - no, but I'm glad I read it. The picture book is hella cute, with lovely illustrations.

I loved this book. For anyone who has ever loved an animal, this book will resonate. The friendship between Dewey and Vicki and the whole town really, was a beautiful one. I had never heard of Dewey before - I must have been under a rock because it seems Dewey was known worldwide. Simply put - this book is a sweet love story.

We all know my feelings about cats. :) <3

Wonderful book, especially for a cat-lover. Funny and touching stories about Dewey - I wish I could've met him - interspersed with details of Ms. Myron and her Iowa town.

Young reader's edition. A quick and heartwarming read.

Didnt care that much about the city or Vicki that much to get the whole backstory but cried like 4 times

This book should be more transparent about what it is; it’s a librarian’s memoir, NOT a book about a library cat. Wavering between 1 and 3 stars. Not to discount this woman’s memoir, but I was not expecting nor looking for a memoir. I was expecting and looking for a book about a cat.
