Never have I read a more heart-wrenching tale in all my 30 year life. I picked up this book because of the adorable portrait of a handsome orange tabby tomcat on the cover jacket. This was just one of those books that I felt magnetically drawn to, and it didn't hurt that I picked it up for a discount. Even if it hadn't been, I still think I would have bought it.

Dewey is the story of a library cat. Not just any library cat, but as the cover says: "The small town library cat who touched the world." And boy did he ever! Being a cat-lover myself probably helped me to appreciate his story more than most people, but I must say it isn't just a story about a cat. It's the story of how this cat helped strengthen the love and kinship of an entire community. When times seemed bleak and people frigid, Dewey had the power to open up the hearts and minds of even the most strongly guarded souls.

If you love cats as much as I do, pick up this book for the sake of your four-legged furry friends. Believe me. You'll be in tears as you turn and absorb every page. I was, I'll admit.

It was fun to read because I live only 30 miles from Spencer and met Dewey in 1999. I was dreading reading the book because you all ready knew the ending and those endings make me cry.

Cute -- but not for me.

It's a lovely story and I'm sure it was a sensation when it was all happening, but I could have read about it in an essay-sized piece of writing and that would have done me.

A beautiful, sweet, charming and lovely book. I completely fell in love with Dewey, and wish I had known the dew!

I am a big fan of library's and had I a library with a cat like Dewey in residence, I would probably attend more so.

I recommend this book to everyone, especially any cat lovers, you too will fall in love with Dewey.

3.5. I cried the whole time.

Every once in awhile it's good to read what everyone else is reading, and this was a lovely airplane book if you like cats. I used to. Now that my little darlings are 19 years old and full of care, it's good to be reminded how loving, quixotic, funny, and companionable a good cat can be. Plus a good cat in a library ... as good a combination as chocolate and coffee.

I loved it! It was simple and showed how a pet can really change the lives of everyone around it.
