A wonderful story of a remarkably intelligent cat. One of the few books that both made me laugh out loud and sob uncontrollably. A worthwhile read.

This is the tale of Dewey, the half-frozen kitten found in the library drop-box, the tough times faced by the mostly-agricultural community of the town of Spencer, Iowa (where the library is located) in the 1980's, and some personal reminiscence from the then library director, Vicki Myron.  Dewey was cute and the effect he had on providing a bit of happiness and comfort to the library patrons was interesting.  This book isn't only about Dewey or highlighting the positive aspects of having furry companions, but it also provides a snap shot of life in a small town in Iowa on the cusp of moving away from small family owned farms to large agribusiness / corporations.

I thought this was a fun little book! I enjoyed the story of Dewey and how he impacted so many lives! I also liked following along with Vicki the librarian’s life and her relationships with others and the overall impact Dewey had on her life! I just found the story to be very heartwarming and I especially enjoyed the parts of the book that were written as if they were from Dewey I found those funny!
