This was a good read and the way it was written made you want to keep reading to find out what happens next and how it ends. The only thing I didn’t like was how infuriating the characters were - even the protagonist.

It was good in the sense that I did not see the ending coming by any means. I listened to this on audiobook and think that helped me get through the slower beginning!

The Escape Room by Megan Goldin was entertaining, and I’m actually surprised at how it ended. While it didn’t get the coveted audible gasp, it certainly came close. I think that the setting for this was perfect. Investment bankers trapped in an elevator having to trust on each other to escape? It almost writes itself. I can definitely say that investment banking being so cut throat felt genuine, and each of the characters fit their roles perfectly. I think that some of the elements felt a little TOO planned, but overall, I found it to be really entertaining, which, when we’re talking about thrillers is a big selling point. While I don’t think this is my favorite thriller, it certainly was quick, enjoyable, and easy to read.

The writing was excellent which meant the dual timelines worked exceptionally well. I was consistently intrigued with all the tidbits and red herrings. The characters felt fleshed out and interesting, although I despised a majority of the cast! The selfishness and misogyny of the financial sector really had my blood boiling often.

I had a single qualm: the ending was very abrupt, and I prefer them to have more details about the wider plot and how the dust settled for everyone. Otherwise, a great read.

Side note for other readers: this is not a Saw-style story.

The number of triggers in this book oml... I wished I checked the content warnings before I went in, but I tried to add as many as I can remember under this review. Please read!

An extremely gripping read, nice start to November! As a self-professed thrill-seeker reader I can't stand books that don't have good pacing, slow burn is really not my style. This book keeps you on edge at all times.

Nevertheless, the ending felt a bit rushed. I wished there was more to the escape room tho I would love to have more puzzles to solve. I understand that the escape room is not the main focus of this book, but... don't name it like that if its not ;-; At times the plot seems too convenient, I would prefer everything to happen more organically.

I love how I started out rating this book 4.25 our of 5 stars, but when I wrote my review I gradually decrease it to just 3.5 stars. I still made it to the end and *relatively* not that disappointed, but don't think this is a future reread.

9 March 24: second re-read, the resemblance between the first quarter of this book and my new corporate job is very uncanny…
