This collection is full of short pieces of flash fiction sprinkled with some poetry. Every one of them packs a punch. I loved it! 4.5 stars!

I really enjoyed this heartfelt collection of mostly flash stories that reflect an incredible depth of inner pain. Doungjai Gam writes effective pieces that make a lasting impact on the reader. The immediacy of her prose is impactful, as are her use of point of view and metaphors. So many of the pieces included are powerful ones so it's hard to single any out for fear of not mentioning how amazing the other ones are but in particular, there was a timeliness to 'the south rises again,' which took an unexpected direction. 'reflection' is a gut punch. This is an incredibly evocative collection and won't take much time to get through but I felt like each piece was a little shining gem.

A moving collection of flash fiction, poetry, and poetic prose. Not every piece was for me, but since the works are shorter, there's a lot to read through and discover! Favorites for me included "huntress", "mourninglight", "how you killed me", "what remains", and "storage: empty". Doungjai Gam writes each piece with a kind of rawness that really makes the pain, heartbreak, and beauty clear on every page. Really looking forward to reading more work by this author!
