Love a badass fmc till the day i die. But Isla did infuriate me 75% of this book. Plot was gappy and I was a bit like ??? some point. But still kind of fun to read. The ending was exciting though.
Grim could punch me in the face, slit my throat, murder my family and I'd still love this man

I struggled to get through this one. I feel like the author compartmentalizes the love triangle a lot in this book. You don't see Isla feeling conflicting emotions, she just gives into them at every which way, which makes her a bit unlikable to me.
The only redeemable part of the book was when it got toOro meeting Isla unexpectedly on the Sun Isle, and Isla eludes Oro after finding the prophet's pages, and Oro catches her again. That scene was gut-wrentching. Oro is truly the only character I really love in this series, he is so complex and well-written. Isla and Grim, on the other hand, are both just awful. It feels like a Damon versus Stephan Salvatore (The Vampire Diaries) dynamic, honestly. Where Grim is Damon and Stephan is Oro, but done badly.
Another thing that I didn't enjoy was just how spice-heavy this installment of the series was. Instead of Isla trying to work through any complex emotions, whenever she felt a hint lustful towards Grim or Oro she just completely gives in and does this whole "take me" thing, which I absolutely hated. I wasn't expecting that at all, given how the first book in the series didn't get so hot and heavy all the time. From what I remember, all of the spice scenes in that first book were pretty much a closed-door type of scene, where something is suggested to have started and then we don't have to see it. Instead of that, in this book it seems like we're just fully in it every time and there's no getting away from it.
I also want to add that I noticed a lot of issues where the plot wasn't really connecting... In the last chapter I was thinking to myself, why didn't we hear about the plan that Grim & Oro we're supposed to be a big part of, if Isla had her own secret plan that we were not privy to until it happened? I feel like it would've been a lot more shocking, but since I feel like I really didn't know what was going on anyway, it was more of a let down than it should've been.
I also noticed two grammatical/spelling errors in the same chapter that had me thinking, really? How'd we miss that in the editing process? I guess it's the same reason the ending wasn't as mind-blowing as it should've been given what I said in the last paragraph.
Overall, I just wish that there was more character development and less flip flopping on who Isla actually wants to be with. The main thing to me that makes Isla so unlikeable is the fact that she doesn't really care if she's hurting Grim or Oro in this book. She's just like, "that's the way it is, be nice to each other cause I said so" - meanwhile she'skissing Grim in front of Oro and then she's surprised when Oro is heartbroken and angry about it!
I'm mostly irritated because the plot and being on team Oro is the only thing that has got me invested enough to see it through the end, but seriously, can we be less shallow and lust-driven in the next one???

Easily my favorite book out of the series so far. I really enjoy the independent FMC that is finding herself and navigating uncharted territories throughout the journey. With the development of her life in both finding herself, finding her powers, and trying to figure out the best solution to the looming path she was destined to go down, I could not put this book down. I have figured out about myself that I LOVE the love triangle trope and overprotective MMC to no end, and the tension that comes with it that always keeps you on the edge of your seat. So much so that I ANNOTATED the parts that made me absolutely need to shut the book for a second to take a breath. I am so torn between both MMC, because when I am starting to fully go on board with one character, the other one comes in and reminds me why I loved their storyline so much. They have both done so much for her and I still am undecided about who I want, but I want to live in my fantasy mind that she ends up with both of them because they are both amazing. but Isla HERSELF, such a complex and interesting character that is so easy to get annoyed with but in the best possible way, if that makes sense. Her journey of finding herself and making allies, only for the inevitable to happen to said allies, and her being alone yet again is also something that I really enjoyed, especially considering her reasoning for the ending of the book. WHICH THE ENDING,,,, OMG. I am so excited for the next book of the series to come out but I am so upset that I have to wait until probably the end of next year to read it, but that does give me the chances to reread this series when the time comes, so I am happy about that. All in all, great series so far, and I am so excited to see where it goes.
