I think as a preteen I would have given this four stars, but as an adult, a lot of the metaphors and similes are very forced. There are a lot of awkward pieces of description. The story is ok, definitely refreshing to have some more realistic depictions of Tourette’s, but most of the plot centres around her Tourette’s instead of it just being part of who she is. The switch between the two narrators was interesting I guess, but overall, the characters were pretty flat. The girl has Tourette’s and doesn’t want people to know. The boy is popular but likes a “freak.” Also there’s a mean girl with a troubled past that’s thrown in pretty minimally. I know that it’s written for preteens, I just think I’ve read much more developed books for that age range. I think this author has potential though and I’d read another book from her. I definitely appreciate that the author is herself diagnosed with Tourette’s, so the depiction is one we can trust. I’d be interested to read a sequel that fleshes out the characters further. It feels like she started a group of interesting characters, but never got to finish them. There are a lot of glimpses into backstories that were glanced over.

I thought this book was just adorable. I feel in love with the main characters, and I didn't want the story to end. What a refreshing great short read with a wonderful message of kindness.

Easy to read and overall nice book. Just not a book for me, maybe too much middle grade for my taste? I do appreciate the Tourette’s representation in it, but I wish it was less of a key part of the plot - in the sense that it could have been better assimilated as a trait rather than her most defining characteristic. I’d say a solid 3.5, but I’m not rounding it up to 4.
