Here we are with the last book of the Wildcats Hockey series. Or at least I think it is the last book. Truthfully, we were introduced to another player, Alex Galaxy, in the previous book and he was a bigger character in this one so now I wonder if Galaxy will star in a 6th book or be a spin-off series.

Either way, back to my review here. I had peaked ahead and saw that our last couple was going to be Jack and Everly. I didn’t see it before and I thought I wasn’t going to be sold on this couple, however I have to congratulate Rebecca as I did end up liking this couple.

We first met Everly in the second book as a senior in high school and recently turned 18. Now we are at the story 4 years later and Everly is 22, just finished college and is about to start her adult life at her first job. However, she still has a few weeks of freedom to enjoy the summer.

Jack is the team captain and was left out of the game during the playoffs late spring after a horrible car accident. I will just say, Rebecca, don’t scare us like that. Things could have gone horribly wrong in that car accident. But here we are a few weeks later, Jack has had surgery and is on the mend. He is a top tier athlete that has been reduced to crutches and rest so he is a grumpy MF that hates to ask for help. While he shoos away his teammates so they go and enjoy their time off and summer holiday, he is stuck at home waiting to start PT. The only one around is Everly. The pushy, barely adult is there to watch over Jack everyday, despite his grumpy attitude. At first he is reluctant because, while he always helped Everly when needed, he did it more as a loyal friend and captain to Tyler, and not so much because he got along well with Everly.

As they spend time together, Jack starts to see Everly more as an adult and not the little sister of Tyler. He opens up to her about his life, ways he never did before with anyone else. The attraction between them grows and this start to turn physical. They start off at first hooking up, not telling anyone. It’s not like they have to sneak around as no one is home to see them but they don’t exactly say anything when they text or talk on the phone with their friends.

Eventually, it’s time for Ev to leave for her new job and Jack realizes that his summer fling meant so much more to him.

It’s definitely one or my favorite books of the entire series but, as I said about the other books, I think I was expecting more overall based on some hype I had seen online about Rebecca as an author and this series in particular. I enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t think it will be memorable in the long run or anything I revisit.

Last book of the series 🥹 Jack, the team captain finds himself injured and out for the rest of the season. Since he’s getting to retirement age, he is fearful that he won’t be able to come back to do what he loves after he has surgery.

Everly is her teammate’s little sister, who they all helped in some way or another when she came to live with her brother when she was 17.

Both home for the summer, her not wanting to leave the comfort of the life she’s created and Jack rehabbing his knee.  Everly has always done what she wants and has always been irritated at Jack’s surly attitude towards her. For example, as he looks outside his window he sees her jumping his fence. He finds it funny and irritating that she’s wanting to use his pool but she’d rather hop his fence than go through the front door to ask him.

They start spending a lot of time together and then tension is CRACKLING between them. Will their summer together change the dynamic of their relationship?

Not sure if this is the end of the series. But finally got to see Jack and Everly(?). I guess I am too oblivious, that I didn‘t even know they were potential love interests. Alas, I still enjoyed reading about them. Everly‘s inner struggle of proving herself to everyone was interesting arc for, as we have seem this ever since her brother‘s book. On the other hand, Jack wanting his dad to be there for him was also interesting.

“She’s everything I shouldn’t want and everything I crave. Thick blonde hair that I want to fist. Big hazel eyes that see right through me. A mouth that I want wrapped around my coçk. Her curves, her fight, her fucking everything. Everly Kent drives me fucking wild. And she knows it.“

Forever Wild was my first book by Rebecca Jenshak and I am smitten! Jack Wyld is an NHL pro recovering from a devastating late-season injury. His grumpy, isolating pity party is short-lived when the vivacious Everly Kent drops by and refuses to let him wallow. Everly is a headstrong, sweet, and sassy FMC finding her path. His teammate’s sister, a woman he’s always respected but never let himself want. She’s always had a crush, but never let herself dream she could have him. Everly and Jack have a delightful grumpy/sunshine dynamic. I loved their snarky banter and the way it morphed into a flirty back and forth. Though I jumped in at the end of this series, Rebecca’s storytelling flows so beautifully that characters and context were clear. I definitely need to go back and get everyone else’s HEAs!

Sebastian York and CJ Bloom were cast perfectly to voice Jack and Everly. Sebastian’s portrayal of the surly, damaged, kindhearted hockey player was swoon-worthy. CJ brought the ebullient, stubborn, lovely Everly to life with a genuine warmth and a dynamic, heartfelt performance. Forever Wild is a must-listen for any hockey-loving audiobook fan!

I just loved Jack and Everly! I didn't want it to end! I loved this series from the start and was so excited to get to Jack and Everly's story.

Now, while I absolutely loved it, I wanted more angst with these two. I thought her brother and the other guys would have more of an issue with them being together.

I loved seeing Everly change over the series. Her character growth was nice to see. And I loved her with Jack. I'm a sucker for grumpy-sunshine trope. And Jack was the grumpiest!
