First of all, I would like to say that I very much ship Susannah and Jesse.

I'm aware thata that's not the best way to start a review. There are people who won't tven take the review seriously just because I started it the way I did. I don't care. They are awesome, both of them, and I want them to be together. Not sure how or if that can even happen but I'm holding on to hope.

Anyway, this book was much like the others of the series. There was a ghostly problem (the number of ghosts were a lot more, though) and Susannah got herself in a whole lot of trouble and almost died. I'm not saying it was repetitive though. Each book had it's own element that made it unique.

Shadowland had a crazy ghost, Ninth Key wasn't actually as much about the ghost and this one had a bunch of angry ghosts who were... I can't tell you because that would be a spoiler. Sorry. Except, not really.

The writing was, as usual, enjoyable. I still wish there were some things that would be changes about it (things I mentioned in review of Ninth Key) but it wasn't bad. The story was interesting and since the book was short like the other, I flew through it.

I love the characters and I like that we're slowly getting to know them better and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Not as good as the last one, but still pretty good. I think it just felt like a lot less happened in this one or that it took too long for Suze to get to the answers to what seemed pretty obvious. Still, I really appreciate this one for the development of the characters and their relationships, mainly with her family. It was nice to see them really feeling for each other.

You know, I actually appreciate that, so far, each of the books in this series have very different villains. It's not always ghosts, sometimes humans can be just as, if not more, evil. I also appreciate that this one specifically deals with the nuances of the "mystery" (it's not super mysterious and was kind of obvious before we even got halfway through), and how all of the main people involved are in the wrong in some ways, but are a little bit justified in others.

Now to the characters. Susannah really surprised me towards the end, being a little bit more ruthless than I'd have expected, but that's what made the scene so good. And what makes Suze just good as a character. She has flaws, she can be rash and can even stoop to a level she shouldn't when she gets pushed far enough, but in the end she sees reason and rises above. It was just very satisfying.

The villains were fun and a bit interesting, and if it weren't for certain things, I almost would be tempted to side with one of them and their reasoning.

Gina was kind of disappointing though. She was hyped up in the last two books by Suze, and a lot of her time in the book was spent brushing off her bestie and instead going after her stepbrothers. I'd be pretty pissed if my bff flew to Cali to see me, just to spend most of her time lusting after two guys that get on my nerves constantly. Thankfully she does have a couple of scenes where she shows herself to be a good friend deep down, and even supports Suze as a mediator. Hopefully when we see her again, she'll show her supportive self more, and doesn't continually ditch her bestie.

And Jesse is just amazing. I love him, and I love the way he is with Suze in particular. They have such a sweet relationship, and I so badly want them together, even if he is a ghost (which doesn't bother me actually).
