How it dragged!! My goodness! The pacing was so slow! The Society didn’t even form until almost half way through and then a lot of things happen off paper, important things we just hear about, not impressed.

I really really loved this story and learning about a small village in post WWII England. I also thoroughly enjoyed the information about Jane Austen and her home (I have a very strong urge to read the rest of her books I haven't yet read).

I did find at times the story kind of lagged, but once I really sunk my teeth into the story, I literally COULD NOT STOP!

Highly recommend this novel, not just to Austen fans, but to any historical fiction fan.

“Because—and he still did not understand how people like his brothers could not see this—inside the pages of each and every book was a whole other world.”

This is another book lover’s book! Set just after WWII in England, it focuses around an unlikely group of people who work to create a museum in the house where Jane Austen wrote several of her books. The village is tiny and full of secrets. This book was a bit darker than Guernsey and had some difficult themes, such as drug use and the loss of a newborn, but there were also story lines that felt distinctly Austen-esque, which made it fun. And it reminded me that I need to reread some Jane Austen!

Sweet and well thought out book.  I found it a bit slow, but there were twists that made it worth the slow pace.  I want the story to be true!!

This book had so many arguments against my reading it. I am a Jane Austen purist. I love the originals and rarely like spin-offs or movies or series based on them. I am also not a big fan of books about books (they often feel a little too precious or self-indulgent to me), and I am weary of WWII-related novels. I took a chance on this one as it sounded different, and I am glad I did.
