Very interesting book.
But sometimes it was hard to focus. To many very similar stories next to eachother.
Love the mini tales, instead of just being explanations, it added a bit of variety.

My favorite part was the beggining about the trees.

Enjoyed seeing patterns in myths and folk tales around the world, similarities and variations across many different regions. However, several sections read a little more encyclopaedic than narrative. Good for reference as a starting point, would need to supplement with more in-depth mythologies to be of any real use.

Maybe this is unfair of me given how many texts and books on folklore I've read but I found this too surface level. I was frustrated that some stories got a lot of page time and others only a paragraph and I wasn't impressed with the goal to find overarching themes that connect these different mythologies. But I know that's a personal preference lmao.
