This book was okay for me. Perhaps I should have gathered this from the blurb, but this book was a lot more focused on grief than I expected it to be. Which is all well and good, and I did find some parts towards the end to be moving, but I often felt like the heaviness of that overtone clashed with the attempted lightheartedness of the premise in a way that didn’t work for me.

More often than not, I found myself frustrated with the characters. It seemed like they were always either making bad choices, or just making no choices at all. And the discussion of what seemed to be some very serious clinical depression left a lot to be desired, in my opinion. I think we finally got there in the end, but it did take a very long time to come to some pretty obvious conclusions, I thought.

How does no one even so much as utter the word “therapy” until Andy brings it up after her wedding?? Like seriously. For all the times the phrase “chemical imbalance” was used, it seems like Bennet should have sought profesional help long before the end of this book. And frankly, the people in her life should have encouraged that. Including Jamie who also seems to have depression and may have been a great resource for Bennett in offering support!
