4.75 rating. But it can definitely be round up.
I started this book right around midnight, and I am finishing at 6 in the morning. I could not stop reading this book. The mystery was so well written. It had so many twists to the story. I annotate my mystery books, and I write in the books my thoughts and theories throughout reading the book. I did start to piece things together of what happened. However, there were enough breadcrumbs and shroud of doubt that I was still surprised with the ending.

I really like that while reading this, I would have a conclusion about a piece of evidence, and Pip would be drawing those same conclusions on the next page. The main character she didn't feel like a moron. It really felt like both the MC and I were putting together the puzzle and figuring it out together. There was no missing very obvious piece of evidence. It was really well written for a mystery novel.

The ending of the book was really sad. It wasn't so clear-cut about who the bad guys were and their villainous reasons. The crime wasn't sensationalized. It felt like something that could absolutely happen in any town.

I really appreciated a mystery book that was about the mystery. There were cute family moments, cute friend moments, and cute romancey moments, but that didn't overpower the fact that this book was about a mystery and stayed true to that. It always sucks reading a mystery book where the middle 150 pages are about the main character missing her boyfriend or something when you just want to be focused on the mystery.

I wouldn’t necessarily suggest this book to anyone, I wouldn’t read it again, but I didn’t totally hate it. The whole premise was so unrealistic, and I don’t know a single public high school in America that would have a capstone project to graduate. There were moments where I was like oooh ok I like where this is going but the author would wrap that storyline up in the next chapter and move on from it entirely. Just overall felt forced and unrealistic.

I liked it. A good feel to the book and I enjoyed the twists and turns as you accuse different people and you try to work it out. I wasn’t amazingly keen on the ending - I feel like it was a bit of a let down but I did enjoy it. Not sure I’d pick up book 2 hence why not 5 stars.

thrilling, misleading, complicated, and fully serving the gullible persistence of the YA audience.

50% mark i didn’t know if i could/would continue, the repetition and messy plot twists were hitting a nerve.

but we’ll worth seeing it through in the end!

low key villains i’d like to see about in the sequel: the rookie cop & his wife, andie’s dad, definitely naomi and the loser journalist steve. i need them to get some straightening with all their closet skeletons
