4.5 - what a debut. A strange book that with bolts of dark humour amidst a pretty bleak and sad backdrop. The protagonist Mona is so likeable and strangely relatable as she muddles through her early 20s grappling with childhood trauma, loneliness and just being a bit of a strange cat. Fantastic writing, excellent characters. Look forward to Beagin's future works.

I have a suspicion this score will increase over time because I’m still thinking about this book. It was weird and gross and sad and wacky and hilarious and terrible all at once. Beagin is a master at the perfectly uncomfortable story that makes you want to turn away but doesn’t quite let you.
