I love Paula Deen! She is such a funny, strong and genuine person. She has such an amazing story - literally going from rags to riches. But I don't think fame has changed her one bit. She is the kind of person who stays true to herself no matter what others say. I was so inspired by her story and her incredible strength. And I can't wait to try some of the recipes in the book!

This was a really good book by one of my favorite Food Network personalities. As Kathie Lee would say, everyone has a story and Paula’s is a fascinating one. She overcame losing both of her parents early in life, a verbally abusive and distant husband, and the mental disorder, agoraphobia, to begin what started out as a catering service and eventually expanded to a restaurant that serves over 1,000 people on a daily basis, in addition to her TV shows, books, and housewares and food merchandise. Not only is she inspiring, but the book showed that she is not a perfect person—something that only makes her more likeable in my eyes. I give it a B.

Interesting to read about her. The last few chapters were tougher to get through because they weren't as interesting.

If you like Paula, you will like this book. The book SOUNDS like she talks, so if that drives you crazy, beware, there are over 200 pages of it. The story of her life is candid and interesting. I thought the end where she talks about her philosophy of food and how to start your own restaurant were a bit drawn out, but all in all a good read.

I've always loved Ms. Paula. Now I feel like she is my friend. I started reading this book and just didn't realize how hard life had been for her. She didn't let that stop her. She is open and very honest in this book. I don't think she'll ever know what this book meant to me at this time in my life. I just remarried and I'm experiencing some trouble with my step children. Her openess helped me so much. Thank you Ms. Paula

I loved this memoir! If you are a Paula Deen fan, you'll definitely enjoy this book. I was surprised to learn that she didn't start using her cooking for business purposes until she was in her forties. She's worked hard and done so much in a short amount of time. There are also recipes in this book that she hasn't put in any other cookbook, so it might be worth reading just for those!

An easy summer read. It's encouraging to read of someone who has overcome many personal challenges, takes responsibility for her part in some of those challenges (a rare thing!) and has become incredibly successful. And dang, she is funny.

Paula Deen's life is a true success story. When she started her first business at the age of 42, she was struggling to hold her rocky marriage together and barely had two nickels to rub together. Throughout all her troubles, Deen has persevered and followed her dreams. The book is an interesting read and it's told just as if Paula was sitting in your living room telling you her life story. She includes recipes for some of the foods that she mentions in her chapters. An excellent read if you're looking for something fairly light and conversational. I enjoyed it immensely!
