If you're looking for a fast-paced book with a lot of unpredictable twists, this is NOT your book. However, the premise is unique and the story was well executed.
I honestly don’t remember ever putting this on my reading list, but I’m glad I did because this was a great thriller. There were several moments where I had audible reactions because of how invested I had become.

This one goes hard from page 1. I started reading late last night and stayed up as long as I could to try to finish in one sitting. Obviously I failed and went to sleep but I dreamed about this and finished immediately this morning. One could easily tear through this cover to cover.
This has been my favorite book by Delaney so far. In the past, I haven't enjoyed the twists or the endings in past books, but this one nailed it. I loved the premise: what happens if someone shows up at your doorstep with proof that your son is not actually yours... but theirs. And they have been raising your biological son? What do you do? Do you swap kids after you spend two-plus years raising a child? Even if you now know it is another couple's child?
This book explored all of those questions really well. The families talked and they seemed to be on the same page with allowing access to the two kids... until psychopathic tendencies revealed themselves and it became a bit of a court battle. The book was filled with twists and turns and ended up resolving all of the loose ends, which I always appreciate. Overall it was well done (although I was hoping for one last Pete chapter at the end!).

I don't really know what to give this book because I think it's pretty good, and definitely the best JP Delaney has written in a while, but the first half it was fully excruciating. I hated reading it. But I don't know if thats cause I actually am getting increasingly easily upset by thrillers involving kids. If there's missing children I won't even go near it idk.
So the set up is that somebody turns up on their doorstep and says hey, our kids got accidentally swapped at birth! They try to work things out amicably, treat each other like extended family, but obvs things go sideways.
The first half literally gave me such intense anxiety and then the second half was incredibly moreish... Well-written at least.

Wow. Wow. Wow.
I rate books very highly but this has been the first book to have me actually mutter "what the..." as it hits its peak. What an incredible book this was.
It follows Maddie and Pete and their son Theo as they navigate through modern parenting with a two-year-old. Pete is the primary parent which already had me relating to it so much as I have taken on the role of Working Mum with my husband taking on life as a stay at home dad in my own life, as well as experiencing a traumatic birth and experiencing a mental health breakdown in the weeks and months following my daughters birth. To say I related to Maddie is an understatement. It was like I was reading my biography. I found this fairly tricky to read in the beginning as it was so similar to my real-life experience and it triggered a lot of emotions in me.
To say I am glad I stuck with the book is also an understatement. It is a parent's worst nightmare to think two babies are switched at birth and then to have said other parent knocks on your door and tell you this. It is earth-shattering.
My heart was beating out of my chest and my stomach in knots by the end. I am so so happy with the ending and I won't reveal it. This is a MUST READ for 2020. Well any year. If anyone stumbles across this book, read it.
Thanks Netgalley for giving me an ARC of this and thank you for JP Delaney for another fantastic thriller.

Very interesting and surprising!! Editing because the more I think about it the more I don’t like it as much
