Brydde meg ikke om noen av karakterene, eller noe som skjedde. Kjedelig

This book was just okay for me. I thought Pete and Maddie were not a likeable couple and I didn't think the end was much of a twist.

Playing Nice isn't my first read by JP Delaney, and I'll be honest, this author's books are a bit of a hit or miss for me. Nevertheless, the premise here sparked my interest, so I decided to try again. This isn't the first time I've seen the switched at birth storyline, and at the risk of dating myself, I'll admit that I remember the movie from the early 90s about that very thing. This one takes things a bit further and gets darker. The story does get twisted and Delaney surely knows his stuff when it comes to building tension and suspense. I'll skip the details so as not to give spoilers, but I will say that some of my favorite psychological thrillers mess with the reader's mind and keep them on their toes, and Playing Nice ranks right up there on both counts.

The plot twist was definitely there and I loved it. It just took me a second to get pass the first few chapters and give the story time to evolve.

Playing Nice is a story about two seemingly decent families that unbeknownst to them, had their babies swapped at birth. Not a spoiler! The book begins with someone dropping this bombshell two years down the line and then follows the devastation and ethical dilemmas of the families involved.

The questions you as a reader start to wonder are – is this true? And if so, who was responsible?

The book was well written and researched – no faults there. But for me, it was the character profiles that let this novel down. I found their reactions unrealistic at times, and there was a distinct lack of parental passion that this situation would have surely provoked. They just didn’t fit with the excellent premise and story arc – which is such a shame.

I enjoyed JP Delaney’s earlier novel, The Girl Before, the excellent combination of suspense and character development kept me turning the pages! With Playing Nice, as much as the story flowed along nicely, I found it hard to become invested. I’m left with mixed views. I liked it, but felt no rush to find out what was happening next – which is unusual for me when reading psychological thrillers.

This book is in my TBR after I saw the review made by @biblio_mom.

What a gripping psychological thriller!

Babies switched but was it accidental or planned? Things seems to be on a good note at first, but some instances are just too good to be true does it? Do children grow up depending on nature or nurture? Is marriage is all that seems to be on the surface? There are so many intriguing questions as you deep dive into this book.

With an intricate and twisting storyline this is a 5
