Plot: 1
The whole time reading this I am on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what happens next.
Characters: 1
I love the characters of Cassia and Xander, and I love Ky. They are all different in their own ways, and I enjoy reading about them.
Description: 1
Ally Condie paints a clear picture for me, making the reading experience fulfilling.
Style: 1
I love a nice sarcastic POV, but this beautiful commentary is something I love to read also.
Symbolism: 1
There are so many examples of amazing symbolism in this novel (the grandfather, the artifacts, climbing the mountain, e. i.) that make this book a unique read.
TOTAL: 5
This book has changed the way I look at reading, and I will turn to this book if I ever need to be feeling poetic.

A quick, easy read. Dystopian fiction always feels like an escape, and though this was more romance-forward I still enjoyed it, and will read the next book in the series.
I feel like nothing happened in the whole book. Maybe the series is eventful but I didn’t get attached to the storyline because of how nothing happened it seems like it sets up for all other books without giving readers anything.
Cool and creepy exploration of all sorts of thought-provoking themes (freedom, art, language, community, isolation ...) but the characters are pretty darn bland. Fun when I read it as a teen but not compelling enough for a full reread.
Definitely had a Hunger Games-esque type feel to it. Especially with the two boys. But it was a good read and I enjoyed it :)
soo I was getting ready for a 15 hour flight, and I was randomly CRAVING a YA dystopian series to binge. This definitely hit the spot. I'll be honest, I didn't have the highest expectations, but I was totally wrong. Tell me why this whole series gave me feelings lollll. I read practically the entire trilogy on the plane.
I know exactly why everyone hates on this book. Here's the list.
- Dystopian
- Parallels to The Giver
- Love triangle
- They choose who you love and the main character is NOT down with that
But reviews are supposed to be for telling what YOU liked about the book, not what other people didn't like.
I loved the characters, writing, storyline, EVERYTHING about this book. I don't care what anyone else says. THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING TO ME!
Third re-read complete!

I love this just as much as I did a few years ago when I first read it. I love it even more now. The writing and fleshing out of the characters is wonderful. I love the development between Cassia and Ky.
I really wanted to give this 4 1/2 stars because about 3/4 through the mushy love talk gets boring. Overall, fantastically written! It's very poetic, which is funny because poetry is major throughout the book, and the characters are very believable and relatable. The author paints such a detailed picture and her execution of information and detail is unlike typical YA books out there. I was instantly hooked and drawn into this world, such a great concept btw, and can't wait for the next one.
