This book has a similar feel to it as the Delirium series. However, I thought that the characters were more believable and better developed. This story focuses more on the world going on around them than on the love story that is told. However, there is a very good love story.
Imagine a world in which someone will tell you who your perfect match will be. It could be anyone in the Society, which is comprised of many provinces. You find out who your perfect match is, and it is someone you have known your entire life, your best friend. This is extremely uncommon that your match is from the same province. You also find out that there is a second match for you, a face that you recognize. He also lives in the same area and you have known him almost as long.
According to the rules of the society, you don't have a choice who you get to marry. You must marry your match. But you start to wonder...
I was enthralled by this book and couldn't put it down. It was fascinating the way you learned about the characters and the futuristic world the author has created.

I read a review where someone compared Matched to The Hunger Games, so of course I wanted to read it. It's very good, perhaps a little heavy on the love triangle, but overall interesting and compelling. I'm excited to see how this story evolves and more of 'the society' is revealed.
I'm not used to reading trilogies as the books come out, it looks like book two comes out in November. This will be a long wait, and hopefully it will be worth it.

Rarely do I wish I could give a book zero stars, but this one deserves even less than that. I cannot stand leaving a trilogy part way through, but this one was so bad that I intentionally spoiled the second and third books for myself so I wouldn't want to read them. It's a good thing I did because apparently they were even worse than this.
1st. Can we just address how terrible the writing is? I read a ridiculous amount of teen fiction (when I know I shouldn't but I can't help myself) and I know they aren't masterpieces, but this was just trash.
2nd. What an overuse of a beautiful poem. You have made me despise Do Not Go Gentle and by the middle of the book I wanted to stab my own brain every time I heard it. You know how they say a good joke doesn't need to be explained? Well let's say this joke was explained every five seconds and call it a day.
3rd. This should have never been a book. There's barely enough material for a novelette. Pretty much every main part of the story is repeated so many times that if you removed all the repetition, it would already be half the size.
4th. *kinda spoilery* I think the author knew the book was terrible and no one would want to continue reading, so at the very end of the book we kinda sorta find out that something has happened and Xander knows about it but Cassia doesn't remember. You don't find out what it is so for just a second you get pissed that you have to read the next book to find out. DON'T DO IT! YOU NEVER FIND OUT! After searching the Internet far and wide, I've discovered this is only one of so many important things that never, ever, ever get answered! It's fine to have a few little things forgotten, but don't just completely forget to answer things that you've made such a huge deal out of!

I was really not sure how I was going to feel about this book. I had read very positive reviews of it and some not so positive reviews. I knew that I loved the cover. It just totally spoke to me. The color is really what drew me in. My main observation about this book is the world that Ally Condie created is close enough to our world that I understand it on a basic level. When I stopped and thought about it more, it concerned me that this world that the Society build is so much like a jail or something similar. The Society controls everything, what you eat, when you eat, your job, your exercise, everything. Even though, it is accepted there is an underlying sense of fear in the world. I really enjoyed the story and can't wait to read more about what is going to happen. I did feel like the book ended in an odd place, like there should have been a chapter or two more. I enjoyed the writing style and the characters and their development.
I was completely blown away by Matched. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
A very easy read. This book is great for getting back into reading.
