If you're just looking for more Sorekin-style writing after watching the movie: I advise you turn away.

Bloom's memoir may not be the pinnacle od writing. But it's a story in its own merit and deserves praise and recognition as a stand-alone

Bloom does an amazing job of conveying the details of her story. She dazzles us with her time in LA and NY, takes us step by step through all the hard parts, and leaves us walking away with the air of another world in our lungs.

She's great at taking the narrative threads of her life and bringing them up at points where they tie together. It's not fluffy writing; she's blunt in the writing, and the shine of the story is there by its own merit.

Super easy, fast read. I really enjoyed the story and only put it down to start the next load of laundry. Look forward to watching the movie.

After a serious injury she sustained while trying to qualifying for the US Olympic Ski Team, Molly Bloom moved to Los Angeles where, through her boss, she became entangled in the world of high stakes poker.

This memoir reads like fiction, in-part because of how surreal it all seems. The only moments that really bring you back down to reality are when the author references the celebrity players of the games she hosted. Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, among others, are mentioned, and not always in a positive light (specifically the pile of human garbage that is Tobey Maguire). Also, the amount of money these people were dealing with is sickening. SICKENING. But I won't hold that against this book, because it's real and it's interesting.

Molly definitely crosses into some shady territory once she gets to New York (and crosses paths with the Russian mob), but I came out the other side of this book really respecting Molly Bloom. She dominated a world that is the definition of Boys Club, and did it as a self-made woman.

Honestly, I feel like this book gets points just for how wild and unique an experience Molly lived through. I can't imagine going through something like that at 26 years old. Kudos to her!

3.5 stars.
I enjoy books like this...high stakes kinda things...women dominating in a man's world (and this was very 'boy's club') and every once in awhile I don't mind something gossipy about Hollywood.

Doesn't surprise me to learn that Tobey Maguire was a douche...I've never liked him.

The book ends off without really finishing Molly's story, but nothing I couldn't find with a Google search.

She seems like she's a chill woman and making the most of where she is now.

Super duper interesting I love Molly's telling of her story and I'm excited to watch the movie. As someone who lives close to where she grew up and having met a friend who's mom knew her once upon a time and that made me feel just a touch closer to a cool story and that felt nice™
