You can't read this without reading the remnant chronicles first -- I read that trilogy and was still confused for the first 100 pages but it helped in picturing the world and some of the characters (RAFE AND LIA ARE PARENTS!!!)

Kazi is the Queen's high guard who was sent on a mission to watch out for a traitor from the great war 6 years ago (remnant chronicles) but she and her friends got tangled up with Ballenger Empire headed by Jase. Jase is the new Patrei (leader) of the empire after his father suddenly died. They were enemies like knife to throat scenes but they both got imprisoned by a third party. The two of them traveled hundreds of miles causing them to bond and fall in love with each other. Kazi also learned about the history of the empire and the importance of family and loyalty to the Ballengers. They also have some lies and betrayals between them but the love confession is TOP TIER!! I can't wait to see their adventures on the second book but at the same time don't want this series to end yet.

Lia is the Queen of Venda and she was pregnant on their daughter, Aster. When she gave birth, and Rafe was in Venda Jase was causing a ruckus about talking to Lia and Rafe literally said the most perfect line: 'The queen will get here when she gets here, but if you wake my baby daughter one more time, I'll pop your head from your shoulders. Understand?' AHHHH

I bought this book a while ago and I finally had the motivation to read this. I had very high expectations because everyone was hyping it up on Tiktok. That’s the reason I was a bit disappointed, don’t get me wrong I still liked it. I just think my expectations were way to high. The first half of the book I didn’t know where the story was going, I also missed the chemistry between the main Character and the love interest. The end was very exciting. Overall it was still a fun book to read and I will read the sequel.
