This was one of those tomes I grabbed the first book I saw on the shelf. I am glad to say I was NOT disappointed. All I can say is that I’m going to need some time getting over this one.

3.5/5. A lot of it could have been cut out, or more detailed to add to the story better, and the ending was very obvious. That being said, I enjoyed the ending and was satisfied with how things turned out.

While the writing is different and less polished than a lot of books, I kind of loved the flow of it. It read like how our thoughts are formed: quick, reactive, and in-the-moment. I love a twist and I felt like there were several thrown in at all the right moments. I look forward to reading more of her work!

A heartbreaking story about the family of a girl who went missing at the age of six. I saw the major twist coming, but all the small twists took me by surprise and the writing was so good I didn't care anyway. This is a book that deserves as wide an audience as possible, because it is sadly true for far too many people in the world.

Receiving an ARC did not affect my review in any way.

Ava grasps her hands so hard her nails dig into her knuckles. They make marks. I put my hands on hers again and say, "Stop, stop." She looks down with this robotic expression, like her fingers don't even belong to her and she doesn't know why they're doing what they're doing.
"I just want it to be over," she tells me. "But it's never going to be."
I wait and breathe.
She watches the TV, a muted deodorant commercial.
"You can tell me anything," I say. "I'll just listen."

I was surprised to see what terrible ratings this book received, as I loved it more and more with each page. It was riveting and astonishing. It had 97 chapters because most of them were so short, which was kind of weird. But the story, the writing, and the characters were perfect.
