I came across the documentary and knew I needed more information about this fascinating family. With this book I have learned a lot about schizophrenia's history and treatment options. I'm someone who's amazing by genetics and it's unfortunate the Galvin's had to go through such a tough time with so many sick sons.

This book is TOUGH. It being nonfiction, the topics that it deals with had me putting it down at times. That being said, it’s an incredible book, and I deeply admire its authors for going through with its publication.

Inside a family of schizophrenics, we are heartwrenchingly induced into a saga of every other child, slowly, breaking. Written by the youngest two of the 10 children, it makes you confront the reality of “what if I’m next” while deeply feeling empathy, fear, sadness for the siblings it does hit. The contributions to the field of nature vs nurture of the disease and understanding schizophrenia are the only silver linings of a true tragedy.

The narrator of the audiobook was fantastic. I’d love to read this same book from the lens of societal attitudes toward schizophrenia and mental illness in general.
