'he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same'.
Despite the completely dislikeable characters throughout this whole book, I became absolutely invested in this story and the truly captivating writing by Emily Bronte. There is such a harshness in the way she describes feelings, characters, nature. Both Cathy and Heathcliff are awful humans, however in a weird way you do feel sorry for them. The way they were brought up and treated almost explains why they are like this. However it still does not excuse the selfish, destructive, maniacal behaviour they both exhibit. The 'love' they have for each other borders on being beautifully intimate to obsession and ownership. I've never read a relationship like it.
I also like how we experience a full in depth recount of the different generations of families, and see just how intertwined they are with each other whether they like it or not. The redemption of Catherine and Hareton at the end is sweet and does make you feel like all of the violent actions and language leading up to it were worth it. You got to know the different side characters, even if I still am completely incapable of understanding Joseph's deep Yorkshire dialect. I enjoyed that it was Mrs Dean narrating the whole thing, I felt like I was there, cosy in front of a fire listening to her tales. Some passages in this book are very tedious and require a lot of motivation to continue reading. However it is very much worth it.

I can't believe that it took me this long to read this classic. It was a good read and is still relevant today.
Lush descriptions of some of the most hatable characters I've ever read.
did not finish, just didn’t get on with it, but plot was good
This is the type of weird shit that happens when your dating pool is too small.
