Jaws

I never seen the movie Jaws before reading this book so I did not know what to expect when going into this book.  I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.  I was pleased that it caught my attention and held it throughout the book.  I never wanted to put it down at any point.  As I was reading I was surprised by the other plot lines interwoven into the story rather than it all being about the shark (aka fish).  I wasn’t happy with Ellen for having the affair with Hooper and reading about her fantasies when they were at the restaurant at lunch together was more than a little strange.  Seriously, who fantasies about being raped?  It was strange.  Ellen was a strange character.  The ending of the book wasn’t as exciting as I was anticipating while reading the climax leading up to it.  It was a bit of a let down honestly.  The shark escaped and the main character Brody was the only one left alive of the three shark hunters.  I did like the foreshadowing about how unpredictable it is to predict the effects of a shark attack how it will kill some and leave others.  All in all, it was entertaining read which kept my attention throughout.
emotional mysterious tense medium-paced

One of the few movies that is better than the book. After reading this I actually bought a used copy of the DVD to re-live the terror I still recall every time I swim in the ocean. Titillating storyline between Brody's wife and Hooper that wasn't part of the movie, and yet somehow wasn't really resolved in the book. The best scenes of the book included the shark, but unfortunately that only boiled down to about ten pages; the rest of the story was a rather un-interesting commentary on the shark's effects on the local economy. Yawn.

Nothing rly happens???
