This book really hit hard for me, and I'm not quite sure why. I could relate to a lot of Riippi's "wants," and it's beautifully written. Definitely a life-changing book, for me at least.

This book captures perpetual longing, guilt, hope and love. It is quietly beautiful, though repetitive.

This was a really fascinating book. Call it poetry or call it fiction. It claims to be a novel, but I'm not quite sure that's a good fit, and throughout Riippi mentions how he isn't sure how to categorize this book.

But all you need to know is that the narrator desperately wants to understand life and his family and what family means, and he accomplishes this perfectly. It takes some getting used to because every sentence starts with "I want." I imagined this would eventually get old or feel overdone, but it works. The whole way through you get this sense that despite descriptions of memories and moments and people that he still doesn't understand how they all fit together. But he wants to understand, and he'll make you want to understand.
